By Vincent Aleven, Kevin D. Ashley (auth.), Ian Smith, Boi Faltings (eds.)

This booklet constitutes the refereed lawsuits of the 3rd ecu Workshop on Case-Based Reasoning, EWCBR-96, held in Lausanne, Switzerland, in November 1996.
Case-based reasoning is an attractive strategy for facing the data acquisition bottleneck in machine purposes; options to new difficulties are stumbled on by way of adapting related event from the prior, known as instances. The 38 revised complete papers provided have been rigorously chosen from a wide number of submissions after a radical refereeing procedure. the quantity refleats the state-of-the-art in case-based reasoning examine and applications.

Lb. 3. THEORETICAL BACKGROUND To analyse the scattering data we adopt a model of cylindrical mesopores on a 2D hexagonal lattice as sketched in Fig. 2. For such a system the scattering intensity can be written as (1) where the first term represents the Bragg scattering from the 2D ordered array of cylinders, with the form factor F(q) and the structure factor S(q), and the term Is(q) accounts for the diffuse scattering resulting from micropores and other inhomogeneities of the powder. For a perfect 2D hexagonal lattice the spherically averaged structure factor constitutes a sum of terms of type m\kL\k(q)lq2, where mhk is the peak multiplicity (mhk=6 for hO and hh, and Whk=12 otherwise), and is the delta function of the Bragg peaks at positions (2) The form factor of an infinite cylindrical pore of radius R imbedded in a uniform matrix is F{q) = 2nm-pcY- qR (3) where pm and pc represent the scattering length densities of the matrix and cylinder, and J\ is the Bessel function of order 1.
