By the end of Reconstruction, however, it had reasserted itself, establishing the three patterns that defined Texas politics for the next hundred years: the one-party Democratic state, provincialism, and business dominance. Whites continued to dominate and define Texas’s political culture throughout much of the twentieth century, but by the end of that century much had changed.
